I wrote the bulk of this FAQ in 1993-1994 for the newsgroup alt.folklore.ghost-stories. I posted it there monthly for over six years, until midway through 2000. At that time I withdrew the FAQ from USENET circulation due to a variety of factors. It has been housed on this website since shortly after its conception.
