My mom relates this story: One night while sleeping, she distinctly felt a cat jump on the end of the bed. Mom has allergies, so NONE of the cats lived inside the house. She felt the cat jump on the edge of the bed and felt its weight for a few minutes until she woke up realizing the cat should not be in the house. She looked down to the end of the bed and watched as the "ghost cat" walked across the bed then she heard it jump to the floor on dad's side of the bed. She never saw a cat - just the small indentations a cat's feet would make if it walked across the comforter. This happened several times. The "cat" would either walk across the bed, or just curl up at my parent's feet as if sleeping.
We had a pet cat at the time - my grandfather's old barn cat "Fluffy" given to us when grandma and grandpa moved back into town to be closer to the doctor. Well, Fluffy was an incredibly fertile little thing and would birth 2 or 3 litters per year. We had cats all over the place, but they all lived outside until they eventually strayed. Irresponsible, I know, but I was only 12 - what could I do? As a result, neither my parents, nor any of us kids grew particularly attached to the cats. Still the "ghost" of one of them decided to drop in from time to time and taste the forbidden joys of jumping on the bed. It could have been the ghost of the former owner's cat, I have no idea. As far as I know it never visited anyone else in the family in that house or any other. My parent's have never been particularly superstitious or religious or, as I said, emotionally attached to a cat.
