It is short but weird and I swear it's the truth.
In late Aug. of 2001 we were moving from Acworth, GA to Bandon, OR. We had decided that we would drive cross country and visit a few friends along the way.
We hit Kansas late at nighy, stayed in a nice little motel and headed out early the next morning. Around 1:00 we were ready for lunch and a place to gas the truck up so we started looking for a place to pull off the highway. A billboard came up saying " Gas 8 miles ahead " so we took that exit.
Down the off ramp onto a dirt road for about 1 1/2 miles before we come to the town. On both sides of the road there are nothing but graves. Both of us are getting a little freaked out, because we can see the buildings of the town up ahead and its tiny! I mean there are thousands of graves for a town of maybe 200 people!! And not one headstone looked old!!!
We get to the town proper. Main street is 2 blocks long with the usual buildings on each side of the street. A small bank, general store, etc. It dead ends at a HUGE white church. There is only 1 other street in the town that we can see and it goes off in the distance west of where we are.
We drive down the main street. Cars parked along it and a few at the church. Maybe 20 total. Towards the end of the first block there is a diner and the sign says open.
But, there are no people. Let me rephrase that....
We did not see one living thing. No people. No dogs. Nothing. Not in the buildings or outside.
This was at 1:00 or so on a Thursday afternoon. Where was everyone ?
By the time we got to the end of the second block Gregg and I both were cold as ice. It was the strangest, creapiest feeling. Needless to say we turned the truck around and headed back out. No stopping for lunch or anything. Just left as fast as we could.....
