Hello. My story is from very recently (the past couple of years up to a few months ago).
My now ex-girlfriend told me of her experiences with ghosts. I know those to be 100% true because I was talking to her when one of them happened.
When she was living in England in 2005 or so, she was babysitting with a friend. They babysitted the same children fairly often and so knew them quite well. They were typical kids, running around, messing with things, having fun. One night they had pulled open all of the drawers and presses in the kitchen. My ex and her friend had to clean up the mess and close everything. When the kids were put to bed, the two of them went back to the kitchen, only to find everything open again. Another time, in the same house, they saw someone in the shower when it was only the two of them and the children who were fast asleep.
My ex said she regularly sees people at night, whether the lights are on or off. A lot of people attribute this to hallucination, however I suspect something paranormal. One particularly person she told me about, she saw them walk through her closed wardrobe and then through the wall. She is able to stare right at them and they stare back.
However, the most vivid one by far is when she was talking to me online and she told me of what she had just seen. She was alone in her house at night and in her bedroom doorway she saw an old man standing there, looking at her. She rarely gets scared when she sees people but this one terrified her. She literally had a panic attack and screamed for help until a neighbour came and knocked on the door to check up on her.
She described the man to her dad and he identified the ghost as his own father who was dead.

A personal experience of mine happened around March 2006. My dad had passed away in January from cancer (at the age of 44) and I was fascinated by the field of Electronic Voice Phenomenon as a result. I said I'd do an experiment to see if I could record anything to see if people really were imagining things.
So I opened up an audio mixer I use for recording guitar and plugged in a microphone. I introduced myself (obviously feeling silly because it seemed like I was talking to nobody) and addressed my dad, asking how I pressed record, put it dangling in mid-air over my wall-mounted guitar rack and left the house to go shopping. I came back about an hour earlier. I looked at the spectrum analyser and found very little except a small bit about halfway through. The microphone had picked up the phone ringing both downstairs and in the room next to mine (both on the same line). Over the third ring (there was nobody in to answer it) you can hear a noise which I have, so far, been unable to replicate. It is possible that it is an error in the recording, however I am a computer scientist and I know this is extremely unlikely. The noise was very loud and everything I did to try and recreate it (such as dropping heavy objects on the floor) produced sounds that turned out much quieter on recording than the original sound. To this day I still do not know what it is. Besides, when I came home nothing was out of place.
